Beagle is Freed from Neglect and Has First Cozy Christmas
Cooper just celebrated his first safe and warm Christmas after spending a life attached to a four-foot chain with no shelter. His rescue was due to an anonymous caller who alerted the Twin County Humane Society in Galax, Virginia, claiming they saw a very thin dog tied up outside who seemed to be in need of help.
The humane society asked two PETA fieldworkers to further investigate, and they were quickly joined by local animal control officers – Adam and Jenny. They found that Cooper was kept unattended outside and on a chain that only permitted four feet of movement. Despite his mistreatment, Cooper was immediately sweet-natured. Once the owner of Cooper understood she could face criminal charges for her treatment of him, she signed over ownership of him.
Cooper was taken in secure veterinary care and was then adopted by two PETA staffers, Katherine Sullivan and Dan Paden. In a blog post, Katherine says, “Copper’s recovery and his happy new life are all thanks to one good Samaritan: a mystery caller I will forever think of as my sweet beagle’s ‘Secret Santa’”. Once his health and spirit were fully renewed, Cooper was able to spend his first Christmas season surrounded by treats, walks, and the loving family he deserves.
