The winter season brought us a new group of athletic teams to root for at Stone Ridge. Basketball, ice hockey, swimming and diving, squash, and track & field all had exciting seasons with many successes. On the field, in the pool, or on the ice, the Gators not only had some big wins, but plenty of fun and exciting moments too. Read below for short recaps of each of the winter sports.
Basketball
Yet again, the Stone Ridge Varsity Basketball team did not disappoint. Led by seniors Allison, Avery, Carina, Morgan, and Isabel, the team brought home 14 wins and went undefeated, beating teams like Maret, Holy Child, Saints, Madeira, Holton, Episcopal, NCS, and more. While some games were close, the Gators dominated some games with scores like 59-11 and 53-9, crushing the competition. The hard work brought the team to the semifinals, where they played Holy Child and won the game, bringing them to the ISL Championship. The team played against Holton Arms in the championship game at Visitation and won, bringing home another banner! Good job Varsity Basketball!
Ice Hockey
Varsity Ice Hockey, another exciting sport for the Gators, had a strong season. One big win against the Holy Child Tigers brought lots of excitement to the team, with a great showout in the student section. Against both Holton Arms and Bishop O’Connell, the Gators lost by just two points, 5-7 and 4-6, respectively. However, led by seniors Ayla, Victoria, Isla, Eva, and Avery, the team had wins against our biggest rivals, HC (11-1) and Visitation (4-2). Go Gators!
Squash

The Gators had another fun and successful squash season. Seniors Bridget, Emily, Caroline, Clare, Caroline, Kate, and Avery successfully led the team and helped the underclassmen secure many wins in matches throughout the season. The seniors on the team highlighted the season saying they loved playing, making new friends on the team, and their team dinners. The squash team played schools like NCS, Episcopal, Gonzaga, and Whitman. Look out for matches next year held at Chevy Chase Athletic Club. Congrats girls!
Swimming
Swimming, a sport that remains strong at Stone Ridge, had a great season. Starting off the season, swimming lost their first meet to Good Counsel, but quickly recovered with a series of wins, alongside Gonzaga, who swims as their boy school counterpart. Undoubtedly, the swim team’s biggest rival is Holton Arms, who repeatedly win or lose to the team by just a matter of points. This year, Stone Ridge hosted the dual meet against Holton and SR came out on top with the score 102-84. Later, the team competed in the ISL championship and came out on top against the rest of the 14 other ISL schools, bringing home another banner. Unfortunately, the WMPSDDL Championship meet fell on the night of Winter Ball, but there were still outstanding swims and great performances. Finally, at the Metros Championship, a swim meet where every public and private school gathers and enters their fastest swimmers to compete, Stone Ridge girls placed 4th (and the second best private school!) – a great end to a great season. Alongside the swim team, many divers stepped up to contribute to the success of so many close-point meets. Special shoutout to Sophomore Caileigh for winning the ISL individual dive championship. Congrats!

Winter Track and Field
Finally, winter track and field had a great season as well. Although spring track and field is the primary Track season for runners at SR, several students partake in the winter season to prepare for spring and participate in meets at Georgetown Prep. Senior Annalea played a role in leading the team in practices and meets, and sophomore Olivia broke a 12-year old school record in the 55-meter hurdles at the MoCo Championship meet. Looking forward to the spring season!
