On April 10th, Stone Ridge celebrated their 13 seniors that will go on to play collegiate sports at the next level. The sports that these seniors are going onto play include field hockey, rowing, soccer, lacrosse, and swimming. Prior to the speeches made by the seniors, the head of school, Mrs. Catherine Ronan Karrels (’86) and the athletic directer, Dr. Maguire, had a few words to say.
Mrs. Karrels made remarks connecting the student-athletes to the 5 goals of the Sacred Heart and how all the seniors going on to pursue their athletic play have been amazing leaders of their community, and have shown up to school everyday first and foremost to learn. She expressed how proud she is of these seniors, and how she knows we will go on to represent Stone Ridge as full children of the Sacred Heart.
Dr. Maguire started off by making remarks about the passion and love all of the seniors going onto play college sports have exhibited as well as the class of 2025’s 13 student athletes brings Stone Ridge’s number of seniors who go on to play collegiate sports to a total of 85. Dr. Maguire says “Nationally, only about 3-5% of graduating classes have students that particulate to play their sport in college. The students in front of you represent just over 15% of the senior class of Stone Ridge which is truly remarkable and talks about the resilience and dedication of these students.”
Dr. Maguire and Mrs. Karrels couldn’t have said it better: the 13 seniors have shown exquisite hard work throughout their 4 years at Stone Ridge, and no matter the ups and downs they have faced, all these girls have shown where motivation can take you.
