With summer quickly approaching, it’s the perfect time to pick up a new hobby or maybe revisit an old one. If you need some ideas for hobbies to pick up this summer, take a look below!
Needlepointing

Needlepointing is embroidery on a stiff canvas, which results in beautiful designs like those shown above. There are many uses for these creations, including ornaments, stockings, pillows, and wall decor. We even have our very own needlepoint store nearby, The Point of It All on McArthur Blvd. For example, senior Emily Ochs made one of her designs into a pillow, as depicted in the upper left-hand corner.
Bedazzling

All the rage right now is bedazzling, a perfect activity if you’re looking to bring a little flair to your life. Anything can be bedazzled if you put your mind to it, but claw clips are especially popular. As you can see, labeled in the image, seniors Caroline Coffman and Emily Ochs bedazzle claw clips for seniors, which are both cute and functional.
Coloring

If you are on the more casual side and looking for a less involved hobby, look no further than coloring. This doesn’t have to mean childhood cartoon coloring books. Currently, adult coloring books with intricate images and designs are all the rage. Get yourself a nice set of markers, not just Crayola, and you’re all set to level up a childhood favorite activity.
LEGOs

Another childhood classic turned adult favorite is LEGOs! Although it may not be the first to come to mind when thinking of hobbies, it is relaxing and will produce a result you can actually use. LEGO makes many beautiful sets, including flowers, paintings, and cars. If you’re looking for a little more room decor, maybe a LEGO set is in the books for you.
Baking

Obviously, baking is a very popular hobby, with baking bread being especially on the rise recently, especially sourdough (seriously, no pun intended)! Sourdough in and of itself is a whole project, seeing as you first need to make a sourdough starter, which you have to continue to take care of. If you follow the proper steps, you will not only have plenty of dough, but also an endless supply of delicious fresh bread.
